It’s August and you know what that means. It’s crazy hot outside! So I thought I’d share a recipe for a quart of a homemade electrolyte drink that is super easy and MUCH cheaper than the store-bought stuff, without all the chemicals.
- The recipe:
- 1/2 c. Citrus juice
- 1/4 c. Maple syrup
- 1/8 tsp pink sea salt
- Water to fill
Here’s what you do:
I freeze orange juice in muffin cups so that I always have juice for this.
You can also use unfrozen orange juice. Put one of the orange juice pucks in a quart jar.
These are 1/4 cup so you will need to add another 1/4 of some other citrus. I like a combo of lime and lemon. Or, if you’re not crazy like me, just put 1/2 cup of orange juice in your jar. Add the maple syrup and salt.
Then fill with water. Shake up and enjoy it. The cool thing is if you use the frozen juice, your drink will be cool enough to enjoy without chilling.
This drink is also very easy to scale up even to a gallon. I would just check the sweetness before you add a full cup of maple syrup.
I requently get requests for this when guests get overheated…I hope you find it useful on these awful hot summer days.
